What color is better for painting walls from drywall?

In order to quickly and qualitatively paint gipsokartonnyh walls, you need to use not only special equipment, but also suitable dyeing materials. Their choice depends on the purpose of the room. More often today use oil paints, enamels and solutions on a water basis. And now consider each option in more detail.

Water-based paints

They perfectly combine excellent quality and pleasant value. Thanks to them, the surfaces of plasterboard become velvety and matte. In turn, these paints are divided into:

  • acrylic;
  • silicate;
  • water-based;
  • silicone;
  • water-dispersive.

Important! Water-emulsion compounds, as a rule, produce white color. To give them the necessary shade, you can use a special dye, which can be found in any construction shop.

Water-based paints

They should be considered as a separate category, as they are suitable for use in all types of living quarters. But in conditions of high humidity, it is better to prefer paints, which normally tolerate similar changes, for example, acrylic paints. They do not allow the fungus to develop and do not pass through the condensate.

Enamel and oil paints

They are used in almost all rooms, because they are not afraid of dampness and moisture. To touch such paints are cool, but externally beautifully shine. In addition, they are quite economical in terms of consumption per one meter of the working surface.

Important! The only disadvantage of these compounds is that the paint should only be produced in a well-ventilated room, because they contain harmful chemical elements.

In principle, choose yourself what paint to paint drywall, perhaps most importantly - carefully study the properties of all coloring compounds.

Important! Please note that the water-based paints become completely lighter after complete drying, but the oil and enamel - on the contrary, darken.

How to choose tools for painting gipsokartonnyh walls?

Typically, plasterboard walls are painted using brushes, rollers and spray guns:

  • Of course, the easiest way to achieve high-quality and uniform painting is the use of a spray gun. But here it is not cheap, although you can try to rent this tool.
  • Brushes of various diameters and sizes are used for processing the most inaccessible places, in particular corners, ledges and small gaps.

Important! The most popular are small flitse brushes with a width of no more than 10 millimeters.

  • The most productive work with the roller, but with this coloring, you have to combine its use with brushes, in order to obtain a high-quality and uniform layer.

Choose the right roller

  • When choosing a roller, give preference to a tool with natural nap, because it fits the colors of all varieties.
  • Foam rolls are used for applying water-based paints.
  • Moreover, the roller for the length of the pile is selected depending on the chosen type of paint:
    1. For glossy inks, rollers with a short pile are suitable not more than 4 millimeters.
    2. For matte paints roller with pile medium length, not more than 8 millimeters.
    3. To make the surface texture use rollers with a long pile, from 8 millimeters.

Important! In general, people prefer tools with pile lengths from 4 to 8 millimeters, because they do not absorb too much paint and do not leave bald spots on the walls.

  • When selecting a roller, attention should be paid to the length of the working surface, so that it is not more than 200 millimeters.
  • It will be great if, in addition to the purchased instrument, there will also be a telescopic tube, which eliminates the need for a ladder to paint joints.

How to prepare gypsum plasterboard walls for painting?

Any painting of walls from plasterboard with their own hands begins with the preparation of surfaces. This stage is quite responsible, and the final result of the painting will depend on the quality of all the works performed here.

Preparatory work involves the priming of walls, puttying joints, a common surface and applying the finish primer.

All work is carried out in the following order:

  1. Priming is best done with a foam roller. First it is applied a special acrylic primer, and then rolls over the surface until completely absorbed. In places where it is difficult to get, you can use a brush.
  2. After the primer has dried, it is possible to produce a filler of all depressions and seams. Apply a putty compound on the seams between sheets of gypsum board with a thin layer using a spatula.
  3. You do not need to wait for the mixture to dry. Now, along the entire length of the seam paste the reinforcing tape, and on top of it we cover with a layer of putty.
  4. We take two spatulas and apply the finishing filler to the grooves of the self-tapping screws, and then we also process the wall surfaces.
  5. As soon as the putty dries, carefully sand all the seams and grooves with sandpaper. On how well you do this, the smoothness of the surface of the walls will depend.
  6. Using the building level, we check the evenness of the walls. It must be applied to the surface in any direction. If you find excess bulges or gaps, they will need to be wiped off.
  7. Now we carry out the final priming of the walls. It is necessary to walk on the walls with acrylic primer two times in a row.

Important! Before painting a drywall, make sure that it is ideally polished. The quality of the preparatory work can be checked with a flashlight or a lamp, you just need to direct the rays of light at different angles to the wall.

How to paint walls from drywall?

And now we proceed to the most important thing - we learn how to paint gypsum plasterboard walls. Whichever paint you choose, it will have to be applied to the walls in several layers, each time waiting for the complete drying of the previous layer.

Important! The fact is that through one layer the seams, the unevenness of putty, the differences in structure and color can be gleamed. The following layers will help align the overall texture and color.

To make it more convenient to work, the paint is poured into a special container, in which it is convenient to dip the roller and brush on the side. To ideally paint the walls, follow the instructions below:

  1. Getting started with the application of a brush, which we paint the entire perimeter of the working surface, as well as bypassing the barriers, that is, all the ledges, sockets for sockets and switches. Due to this approach, you can avoid contamination with paint barriers.
  2. Before you start painting with a roller, it must be completely dipped in a bucket of paint, so that it is as impregnated as possible.
  3. You need to paint from the corners of the room, from the ceiling to the floor, regardless of the type of paint chosen.
  4. Getting to work with each new surface, you need to again mark the perimeter with a brush.
  5. The paint is applied by the roller all the time in one direction, and the first, and second and even the third layer.
  6. So that it evenly distributed just three times to walk along one strip.
  7. The walls of a large area are recommended to be painted with stripes perpendicular to the direction of the roller. And remember: you can not decorate the areas where the paint has already seized, but not completely dried.
  8. Stir the paint constantly so that it does not thicken and the color remains uniform. The water-emulsion composition can be diluted with water, and the oil paint with a solvent.
  9. The final coat of paint is applied only after all previous layers have dried completely.
  10. If there are traces of water-based paint left, they can be removed with sandpaper after it dries. The glossy composition is harder to remove, so all the shortcomings will have to be neatly masked with an additional layer of paint.

As you can see, even without special skills you can cope with the painting of plasterboard walls yourself. The main thing is to observe certain rules and technologies.
